Apple works to make Siri more agentic
Tech Desk
Apple CEO John Ternus is pressuring AI chief Craig Federighi to speed up the Siri roadmap, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says. The move is intended to produce a more powerful AI assistant that can rival OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse. While Federighi has already delivered a functional Siri AI on a very short timetable, the company admits it is not keeping pace with its rivals.

Gurman reports two key upgrades are due in the next few months. The first, slated for iOS 27.3, will give Siri fine‑grained control over Apple’s own apps, allowing actions such as rotating and cropping images in Photos and organising Safari tabs. A later spring release is expected to add third‑party app integration, which could let Siri order food via Grubhub or book a dinner reservation through OpenTable.
Apple also aims to make Siri more agentic, enabling it to carry out ongoing tasks rather than isolated commands. "Dots, Muse and Grok can keep track of goals, determine what needs to happen next and continue pursuing objectives without the user initiating every individual step. Apple ultimately wants to go in this direction, I’m told, and I believe the company could make Siri more like an agent as early as next year — not that it has much of a choice, given current consumer and market demands."
