Netflix announces live-action Stranger Things spinoff series

Netflix has revealed plans for a new live-action spinoff of its popular series Stranger Things, titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure. The production is currently scheduled to premiere in 2028.

The new programme will function as a prequel, with the narrative taking place during the 1950s. This setting predates both the original series and the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow, according to Netflix.

Franchise creators the Duffer brothers are returning to work on the project, while Kate Trefry has been appointed as showrunner. Additionally, British director Joe Wright is attached to lead the first three episodes.

In a statement, the Duffer brothers noted: “Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new… actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting.“

The streaming service has previously explored extending the franchise through the animated spinoff Tales From ‘85. This latest announcement suggests a significant commitment to developing the brand following the conclusion of the final season of Stranger Things last year.
