EA to release 25 classic PC games on Steam

Electronic Arts said it will make 25 classic PC titles available on Steam, GOG and the EA App, with Road Rash and six Wing Commander Anniversary Editions among the launch line‑up. The Road Rash and Wing Commander editions will be sold for $9.99 each, while the remaining games are priced at $4.99.

The company explained that the Anniversary Editions retain “the original look, feel and creative intent of the game” but also add quality‑of‑life improvements to suit modern systems and controls, according to EA.

EA added that the new editions were “inspired” by the discovery of a “physical media vault” holding “thousands” of Betacam, VHS and D1 tapes and other media assets. The digitisation effort let EA recover master FMV sequences and re‑edit more than 1,500 scenes, and the updated Wing Commander titles now officially include some community‑made mods.

The collection includes Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition; Wing Commander: 35th Anniversary Edition; Wing Commander II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi: 35th Anniversary Edition; Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition; Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition; Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition; Privateer 2: The Darkening: 30th Anniversary Edition; plus Wing Commander: Privateer, Wing Commander: Academy, Wing Commander: Armada, Strike Commander, Theme Hospital, Crusader: No Remorse, Crusader: No Regret and a range of Ultima titles from Ultima I through Ultima IX as well as Ultima Underworld I and II.
