Bose recalls S1 Pro battery packs over fire risk
Tech Desk
Bose and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall on Thursday that covers almost 635,000 lithium‑ion battery packs sold in the United States and about 35,400 packs sold in Canada.

The recalled packs can overheat and ignite, creating a fire hazard and possible burn injuries, so owners are urged to stop using any affected units immediately. Bose said it has received seven reports of batteries melting, smoking or catching fire, six of which caused property damage, and it added that no injuries have been reported.
The S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ are portable PA speakers intended for events such as parties and gigs, featuring a built‑in mixer, Bluetooth streaming and a removable battery pack for mobile use; the S1 Pro+ can also accommodate a wireless microphone and instrument transmitter that sells for $159.
Affected battery packs were sold between December 2017 and July 2026 through Bose’s own store, Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and other retailers. The speakers themselves retail for around $700, while the battery packs are available separately for between $100 and $160.
Consumers should remove the battery, locate its 17‑digit serial number and compare it with the recalled batches; serial numbers beginning with 083723, 078352, 084105, 078591, 078592, 084106 or 086409 qualify for a free replacement, and Bose advises that the speaker can continue to be used on AC power while awaiting the new pack.

Bose cautions against discarding the recalled lithium‑ion batteries in regular waste and recommends contacting a local household hazardous‑waste centre for safe disposal.
