Epic Games Launcher coming to SteamOS

Epic Games has announced that its new Epic Games Launcher will be compatible with Valve's Linux‑based SteamOS, communications director Jake Jones told GamingOnLinux. The confirmation also covers several additional distributions, expanding the range of Linux support. Jones made the statement while discussing the launcher’s preview status and packaging options.

In October, Epic Games said it was investigating the possibility of making Fortnite run on SteamOS, though at that time the launcher was only in preview and SteamOS was not listed among supported systems. When asked whether the AppImage format would be replaced by Debian/Ubuntu .deb packages, Jones replied: “The new Epic Games Launcher is still in Preview and we plan to support as many Linux distributions as possible, including Fedora, SteamOS, Cachy, Omarchy, and more. We’re testing and evaluating packaging formats for distribution, and we’ll restore AppImage this month.”
The announcement does not guarantee that Fortnite will appear on SteamOS, as support for Easy Anti‑Cheat (EAC) Linux v2 remains unresolved. The company previously noted that the Steam Deck “does not support the required features for our EAC v2 solution, but we are actively talking with Valve and hope to support it in the future.”
