Airbnb announced in its Q3 2026 earnings shareholder letter, released today, that it will introduce an artificial‑intelligence travel agent in the first half of 2027. The company said the new service will help users plan and book trips directly on its platform.

The firm explained that today’s AI agents handle simple, routine tasks, but “Today’s AI agents are good at simple, routine tasks, like making a restaurant reservation or scheduling an appointment,” Airbnb said. “But planning a trip on Airbnb is different.” It added that its experience matching hosts and guests, its existing role in reservations and a “new interface” built “specifically for travel” give it an advantage. Airbnb also described the upcoming interface, stating, "We don’t think a traditional chatbot is the right way to plan a trip.
We’re developing a custom-designed, AI-native experience that builds the interface around your question. Rather than a chat window, our agent draws on a library of hundreds of travel-specific interface elements—maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, itineraries—and composes them in real time to match what you’re looking for. Our agent will help guests explore options, make decisions with the people they’re traveling with, and take action directly in Airbnb."
Airbnb co‑founder and CEO Brian Chesky has previously told the Skift Global Forum that the company aims to launch an agent in 2027 with an interface that is “much richer than a chatbot.” In the shareholder letter, Airbnb also claimed AI is “the best thing to ever happen to Airbnb” and said it has reshaped product development and operations.
