NASA administrator Jared Isaacman unveiled a new experimental aircraft called the X‑70 Fractal at the UP.Summit held on 4 November at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The announcement introduced the platform as part of NASA’s latest X‑plane series.

The X‑70 is said to incorporate reconfigurable flight‑control technology and a modular layout that permits rapid swapping of both internal and external payloads. A press release accompanying the launch included an image that appears to have been generated by artificial intelligence, depicting a dark silhouette vaguely reminiscent of a fighter jet enveloped in smoke. Details on the aircraft’s design and the timetable for its development remain scarce, although Isaacman suggested the craft could achieve flight within two years.
“The X-70 Fractal gives NASA a crewed, high-performance platform to test advanced flight-control, maneuverability, and other cutting-edge technologies in real flight,” Isaacman said. “Its modular design and ability to rapidly swap internal and external payloads will keep our teams flying, learning, and moving quickly from one experiment to the next.”
