TikTok launches standalone shop app

TikTok has quietly introduced a dedicated standalone app for TikTok Shop in several countries as part of its ongoing e-commerce expansion. The application is currently available on both iOS and Android platforms in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, according to social media consultant Matt Navarra who first spotted the release.

The new platform offers a variety of features including personalized product recommendations, shopping through livestreams and short-form videos, app-exclusive deals, and secure in-app checkout. Users can also access order tracking, 24/7 customer support, free shipping offers, and special benefits for first-time orders. By providing a separate destination, the company aims to reach shoppers beyond its main platform and compete with established retailers like Amazon, Temu, Walmart, and Target.
This move suggests that TikTok is prepared to invest more heavily in social commerce. While the company has not yet released the app in the UK or US, the existence of a dedicated shop app indicates a strategic effort to drive more purchases within its own ecosystem. TikTok did not immediately reply to requests for comment regarding the rollout.
The launch marks another step in the company's efforts to branch out beyond social networking and entertainment. In recent times, TikTok has gradually ventured into new areas including games, restaurant guides, sports hubs, hotel booking, and microdramas, while also exploring payment services.
