England rugby league forward Owen Trout, aged 27, has completed a one‑month ban for a cannabis violation. The ban covered the period from 22 May to 21 June, after he tested positive following a Super League match against Wakefield on 20 March. Trout is set to join the NRL club Sharks this off‑season, having played for Leigh this season.

UK Anti‑Doping informed Trout of the adverse analytical finding for carboxy‑THC, a metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol, on 22 May and issued a provisional suspension. He admitted to smoking a cannabis joint and eating a cannabis gummy in the week before the test. Formal charges were lodged on 20 July, but the sanction was deemed to have been fully served during the earlier month‑long period.
Trout, who earned his only England cap against Australia last year, accepted the charge and completed an approved Substance of Abuse treatment programme. His ban is now recorded as having been served from 22 May to 21 June, satisfying the disciplinary requirements.
