Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has made MLS history by becoming the first player to win the Golden Boot in consecutive seasons. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner netted 26 goals in 31 appearances throughout the campaign.

This total placed him four goals ahead of FC Dallas striker Peter Musa and five goals clear of Nashville's English forward Sam Surridge. Messi is now the sixth player to claim the award twice, joining a group that features former Charlton Athletic and Southampton striker Bradley Wright-Phillips.
Beyond his goalscoring record, the 39-year-old recorded 17 assists during the MLS season. This resulted in 43 total goal contributions, which stood as a league-best figure for the second year running.
The World Cup winner is currently in contention to become the first person to win the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award three times. He previously secured the honour in 2024 when Inter Miami claimed the Supporters' Shield, and again in 2025 as the club won the MLS Cup.
Although Messi performed well, Miami did not secure the top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference. The team finished 17 points behind Nashville, who are led by Sam Surridge.

The side is now set to play Columbus Crew in a three-game series. This first round of the MLS Cup play-offs is scheduled to begin later this month.
