Michael Carrick has offered his support to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, dismissing concerns over his form following the club's recent loss to Bournemouth. While the coach declined to disclose the specifics of their private talks, he noted that such dialogues are a standard part of daily operations at Carrington.

"There are always conversations, and bits going on," Carrick said. "It's acknowledging when things are going well and what we need to improve on. Sometimes it's individually, sometimes it's [a] group. What's actually said in that discussion, I'll keep that to myself, but it's pretty clear we've moved in a good direction. Bruno's commitment is undoubted for me in terms of what he brings to this team and this club."
Manchester United's leadership is expected to evaluate the managerial situation following Sunday's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Carrick acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his role, noting that the team's record of only one victory in nine matches—a win over Ipswich in August—is insufficient. He believes the recent success against Roma should serve as a turning point for the squad.
In the official matchday programme, Carrick wrote: "While we can be really pleased with elements of the performance on Tuesday night, we must absolutely know there is so much more to come from our team. We must be ready to show that we can back up Tuesday's victory and begin to create the momentum to give ourselves something to build on after the international break."
The pressure on the club intensified following Nottingham Forest's 3-1 win against Manchester City. As a result, Carrick's side faces the prospect of remaining in the relegation zone throughout the upcoming international break if they fail to defeat Aston Villa.
