Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic was intercepted by police after being seen with a bow and arrows at a beauty spot in Northumberland. The 24-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina international was travelling with a friend when they were pulled over in a car, following a report from a concerned member of the public.

According to reports, six police vehicles, including armed units, were deployed, and the pair were stopped about seven miles from their initial sighting. Officers searched the vehicle and confiscated the archery equipment, but concluded that neither man posed a threat to the public. It has been indicated that Dedic had no malicious intent and fully co-operated with the authorities.
During the police interaction, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, 34, and former defender Paul Dummett, 35, arrived at the scene. It is understood that their presence in the area was coincidental and they stopped to provide assistance. The incident occurred on Wednesday, two days after Dedic, who signed from Benfica for approximately £30m in August, played in Newcastle's 1-0 loss to Everton.
Northumbria Police stated that enquiries are ongoing, though they did not identify Dedic by name. The force confirmed they received reports of two men carrying a bow and arrows on a track near a reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area. A statement added: "Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public."
Newcastle United, currently 13th in the Premier League with 11 points from nine matches, have not commented on the matter. The club is scheduled to play away at Fulham on Saturday at 15:00 GMT. Since joining the team, Dedic has made 10 appearances in all competitions and has been selected for the Bosnia-Herzegovina squad for matches against Sweden on 14 November and Romania on 17 November.
