Google announced that any US school that completely prohibits artificial intelligence will be cut off from its Search service, the company said this week.

Chris Phillips, vice‑president for education at Google, told the New York Times that “search and AI are deeply integrated” and that pupils in a school that has banned AI “will not have access to search, and they’ll see a message from their school that indicates it’s not available”. He noted that Google holds roughly 91% of the global search‑engine market share across all devices.
The firm is inviting parents and teachers to share their views via an online form, asking whether students should retain Search access regardless of AI availability and what impact they expect from the policy.
