He was arrested from the Sabujbagh area of the Upazila town around 1.30 pm on Monday. Earlier at 12:15 pm, the councilor of the 8th ward of Nalchiti municipality Md. Shahidul Islam Titu filed a case against journalist Khalilur Rahman Mridha under the Digital Security Act.
Khalilur Rahman Mridha is working as the correspondent of the daily Janata and the regional daily Samay. He said Gauripasha area of the Upazila. Mosharraf is Mridha’s son.
It has been alleged in the case that Khalilur Rahman’s post on Facebook has disrespected the mayor, councilors, and deputy engineer of Nalchiti municipality.
According to the details of the case, the journalist Khalilur Rahman from his own Facebook ID (Md Khalilur Rahman Journalist) on May 9 at 11:33, the mayor of Nalchiti municipality A. Waheed Khan, Deputy Assistant Engineer. He posted several defamatory, false, and misleading articles mentioning Abu Sayem’s picture and the name of Councilor Shahidul Islam. It also spreads defamation and misleading public opinion by spreading false and misleading information against municipal councilors.
Nalchiti police officer in charge (OC) said. Ali Ahmed said journalist Khalilur Rahman had posted several defamatory, false, and misleading articles on Facebook involving the mayor, councilors, and deputy engineer of Nalchiti municipality. Municipal councilor Shahidul Islam filed a case against him in the incident and he was arrested in a raid in the Sabujbagh area of the city on Monday night. He was sent to court on Tuesday morning.
